Camping
An Adventure into the Wild
I've always loved camping. The joy of packing up for vacation with smiles all around. I have always loved the smell of the woods and the ocean, it feels fresh and free. The sound of birds and the wind blowing the tents always soothed me going to sleep. I wasn’t always the happiest camper but it definitely grew on me and now that i’m older I appreciate it more. When I was young we had a tent which was really fun but a few years ago we upgraded to a tent trailer and this is where I have most of my camping memories.
I always have loved swimming so every time we went camping I always bugged my parents to take me to the beach. When we were at the ocean I would find sea shells, beach glass and little creatures with my brother. Over the years we’ve found pieces of pottery, rare colors of beach glass like red and purple, we’ve found hermit crabs, starfish, jellyfish, sand dollars and lots of fish. I’ve never been your typical girl, mud and sand were way better than makeup in my eyes and camping has always had a special place in my heart.
Cooking and supper were always fun too, hotdogs almost every night hanging out with family and friends but the best part has yet to come… Dessert! Marshmallows are always a go to campfire dessert, especially when you make them s’mores. My family has made lots of interesting s’mores over the years. We’ve sandwiched the marshmallow between things like chocolate chip cookies, chips, celebration cookies and your classic graham crackers. When the campground has a canteen that’s a treat too. Ice cream was another go to dessert with my family. My personal favourite is Moon Mist but ice cream sandwich ice cream is a close runner up.
In my article Camping for Beginners you will find what you will need to start camping with different shelters (tents, tent trailers and trailers) and things everyone will need. You will find what to put in a first aid kit and things to do while camping. I personally learned a lot while making this article so I recommend you read it too! I also have another article called Campfire 101 which includes, how to start a fire, what different types of wood do (hardwoods and softwoods), recipes, what and what not to burn in a fire and what to do with a fire before bed. On this website you will also find a page called Bark Identification which you can use to figure out what kind of wood you are burning based on its bark. Finally you will find an advertisement for a product.
I love and will always love camping and writing this made me realize this even more. I hope I have inspired at least one reader to jump out of their comfort zone and go out and try camping. My adventure with this website may be over for now but yours is just beginning. I wish you the best best of luck with all the adventures you may encounter and I thank you for reading my articles.
Best of luck,
Kaelen Derrah
